System Integration

Undertaking cross-platform, multigenerational projects is no easy task, and seeking assistance is crucial. While vendors may showcase successful projects, they often omit mentioning any past disasters. In contrast, an independent system integrator can openly discuss both a vendor’s successes and failures. As you contemplate launching a project, consider these fundamental questions:

01

Functionality

What are your expectations for the new system upon successful transition? What additional capabilities do you intend to incorporate, such as smart input/output (I/O), advanced process control, or better enterprise connections?

02

Cost

Is your company willing to invest in production improvements, or is cost minimization the primary focus?

03

Operators

How will the operators be affected? Will they experience new, modern HMIs, improved alarm management, or stick with the current setup?

04

Schedule

Is there ample time for thorough planning, or is this project driven by a plant emergency? Can the project be timed to coincide with a shutdown, or is a complete cutover necessary?

In some cases, suppliers may overstate the capabilities of bolt-on approaches, necessitating an integrator to provide a realistic perspective and be the voice of reason.
